The technical report meeting was chaired by Fang Guigan, Deputy Director of the Academic Exchange Working Committee of the China Paper Society and Researcher at the Institute of Forest Products and Chemical Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry. The conference invited 12 experts and scholars from China, Brazil, and Australia to share from multiple perspectives and levels on how to transform energy conservation and emission reduction technologies in the paper industry in the context of "dual carbon", develop advanced functional materials based on paper in the context of technological power, and achieve innovative development of "paper replacing plastic" in the context of plastic restrictions (bans).

Grasp global market dynamics

Jointly building green and low-carbon industries

Mr. Ambassador Jos é Carlos da Fonseca Junior, Executive Director of the Brazilian Forest Industry Association, delivered a keynote report on "Brazilian Forest Industry", introducing the outstanding contributions of the Brazilian forest industry to achieving carbon reduction and neutrality in the current climate crisis. The Brazilian forest industry has developed approximately 5000 renewable, recyclable, and mostly

biodegradable bio based products, with a renewable energy generation share of 90%.

Mr. Jo ã o Cordeiro, the head of the pulp and paper line of AFRY Group, introduced the global paper market dynamics and the development status of the pulp and paper industry in China and Brazil, with the topic of "Global Pulp and Paper Market Dynamics - Focusing on Brazil". Jo ã o Cordeiro mentioned in the report that the global pulp trade volume has reached 70 million tons, and the fastest growing demand in paper products is in tissues and packaging paper, which has driven the industry's further increase in demand for pulp and recycled fibers.

Leveraging the Green Advantages of Biomass

Realizing High Value Utilization of Resources

Professor Jin Yongcan, from Nanjing Forestry University, introduced the main sources and development process of carbon emissions in the pulp and paper industry under the title of "Carbon Attributes and Lignin Resource Utilization". He analyzed the problems faced in achieving the "dual carbon" goal, and pointed out that the high-quality and sustainable development of the paper industry requires strengthening the reuse of waste resources, reducing energy consumption, and using industrial lignin generated from pulp for agricultural and forestry crop production, It is an effective way to achieve the utilization of lignin resources and carbon balance of fiber raw materials.

Researcher Xu Junming from the Institute of Forestry Chemical Industry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, published a report titled "Development and Frontier Technologies of Lignin Based Chemicals", introducing strategies for high-value utilization of wood fibers, such as thermal conversion of forest biomass into biofuel or separation and utilization to obtain lignin and cellulose. The focus was on the development and cutting-edge technologies of lignin based chemicals, such as lignin separation, sulfonation, capping, and derivative electrocatalytic reactions.

Jose Tomas Corthorn, Chief Representative of CMPC China, published a report on the theme of "CMPC's Strategy towards a Circular Bioeconomy", sharing CMPC's rich and expanding experience in the entire value chain of the wood industry, and introducing its research and innovation in biomass products, sustainable packaging, pulp molding products, and other areas.

Characteristics of building paper based materials

Develop advanced functional materials

Professor Zhong Linxin from South China University of Technology gave a report titled "Paper based Flexible Supercapacitor Electrodes", introducing the functional characteristics and application potential of various paper based flexible supercapacitor electrode materials, such as N-doped carbon sheets/polyaniline (PANI) nanocellulose fiber flexible composite materials, ultra-high capacity foldable supercapacitor electrode materials, and electrostatic self-assembly paper based flexible composite electrodes.

Professor Nie Shuangxi from Guangxi University introduced the research progress and application prospects of advanced cellulose functional materials in energy collection and conversion, pulse direct current conversion, and water collection under the title of "Research and Application Progress of Advanced Cellulose Functional Materials", and analyzed the research on molecular regulation, structural design, and structure-activity relationships of cellulose functional materials.

Professor Shen Wei from Monash University in Australia published a report titled "Strategies for Improving Colorimetric Performance and Practical Applications of Paper Based Analytical Devices", summarizing the working principle of paper based colorimetric analyzers (PADs), strategies for improving colorimetric performance, and design plans for improving portability. In particular, the principle of controlling liquid paper interaction to increase color saturation based on PADs design was explored, And a detailed introduction was given to image acquisition techniques and image processing algorithms related to color accuracy and sensitivity, which will help develop and design PADs with higher sensitivity and

portability.

Dr. Zhang Xue from China Pulp and Paper Research Institute published a report titled "Research Progress on Water Vapor Barrier Performance of Paper Based Materials". Starting from the multi-layer structure of paper based materials, this paper introduces the transmission mechanism of water vapor on the multi-layer structure of paper based materials, analyzes the difficulties of water vapor barrier, and introduces the research progress of 3D internal structure control and surface structure modification to improve the water vapor barrier performance of paper based materials, The water vapor barrier performance of superhydrophobic paper based materials was evaluated.

Innovative pulp diversified transformation

Green development of "replacing plastic with paper"

Ms. Beatriz Santucci, Senior Researcher of Shuzan Junuo, gave a report on the theme of "Developing Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp as an Alternative Pulp for Manufacturing Environmentally Friendly Packaging Products." The report pointed out that Shuzan Junuo produces approximately 10.9 million tons of Eucalyptus Commodity Pulp annually, with a sustainable management model and production process. Beatriz Santucci also mentioned that bleached hardwood kraft pulp has excellent physical properties and cost competitiveness. In the future, its market demand will further expand and it can replace other fiber raw materials, achieving the goal of "fiber replacement fiber".

Professor Shen Jing from Northeast Forestry University, titled "Fiber source papermaking additives and technological innovation of 'paper replacing plastic', proposed a research plan to convert pulp fibers into diversified products through molding by comparing the cross characteristics of the plastic and paper fields. Professor Shen Jing stated that using fiber source green papermaking additives can improve the porosity, wet strength, barrier performance, and other aspects of paper, achieving the development goal of "replacing plastic with paper".

Lucas Ornelas Jacinto, a senior researcher at Shuzan Junuo, published a report titled "Eucalyptus Pulp for Pulp Moulding", proposing the development strategy of promoting sustainable packaging through eucalyptus fiber "pulp molding". Eucalyptus fiber has low pulping energy consumption, stable performance during the molding and pressing process, good compressive and torsional properties, and is a good material suitable for pulp molding. Lucas stated that currently, Shuzan Juno has jointly developed and evaluated 100% eucalyptus fiber pulp molding with partners in China and Sweden, and is undergoing industrial trial production.
